AGM Services and Junair Spraybooths are proud to announce that they are the main sponsors of the BEN Lynwood to Paris Charity cycle ride, taking place on the 15th to the 19th June 2016. The 5 day 500km cycle ride will see the cyclists peddling to Paris from the BEN Headquarters at Lynwood.
BEN is a not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to making positive differences to people’s lives in the automotive industry. BEN is proud to offer lifetime practical help, support and advice to those who work, or have worked in the automotive and related industries, and to their family dependents. In addition to its wide range of free confidential information, advice and support services, BEN operates highly-regarded care centres at various locations throughout the UK plus a day centre in Coventry.
Neil Morrison, Managing Director at AGM Services and Junair Spraybooths, comments, “We agreed to become main sponsor for the event as we’ve heard great things about the work that BEN has done for the industry over the years. It’s a fantastic cause. I’m just pleased that we can do our bit to help out.”
As well as being the main sponsor, a team of cyclists from both AGM Services and Junair Spraybooths have joined together to raise funds for BEN by participating in the Lynwood to Paris charity cycle ride.
Cycling from AGM Services are; AGM Services Founder, Julie Morrison and Fiona Morrison, Operations Manager.
Cycling from Junair are; Junair Founder and Managing Director, Neil Morrison and Jordan Young, Assistant Production Manager.
Julie Morrison, comments “As soon as I signed up for the event I joined a spinning class. As well as that I’m cycling around the local area as much as I can. The event still seems like a long way off but I’m sure it’ll be here before I know it and I want to make sure I’m ready and trained when it does come around. The sights en route will be amazing and ending up in one of Europe’s most iconic capital cities will be the icing on the cake.”
Fiona Morrison comments, “I’m looking forward to the challenge. I’m under no illusion that it will be tough but the thought that I can do something to help those who have found themselves in difficult circumstances will spur me on. I’ve always enjoyed sports and am a member of the local hockey team, playing defence in competitive matches on a regular basis. It’s a once in a lifetime challenge, hopefully I’ll do the team proud.”
Neil Morrison comments, “I started training as soon as I signed up for the event. I live in quite a rural area so it’s great for training outdoors. I’ve always enjoyed cycling so this is a great excuse to get out and about.
I know the cycle ride itself will be a tough five days, but I’m aiming to get as ready as possible with my training. I’m hoping the scenery en route and the promise of a large glass (or two) of red in Paris will soften the blow.”
Jordan Young comments, “I love cycling and quite often go out on my bike at weekends with my wife and kids. I love the idea of the challenge and I’m stepping up my training so I’ll be ready for the 500km. It’s a fantastic cause that we’re riding for, and knowing that I’m doing it for my industry colleagues will give me the drive I need to complete the cycle.”

10 years ago this November Ian Mather came to AGM Services as an engineer’s mate, working out in the field maintaining, fixing and servicing spraybooths across the country. After 8 years of loyal service Ian was promoted from an engineer’s mate to become the AGM Stores Controller.
Ian now controls the stores, ensuring that AGM’s national network of engineers have sufficient stocks of the most common spraybooth replacement parts on their vans, and sending out replacement filters and parts overnight where necessary.
At the annual engineers meeting, as a token of appreciation and to thank Ian for his dedication to AGM Services Ian was presented with a bottle of Champagne and a personalised gift.
Wesley Young, Sales Director, comments, “Ian has always been a committed and reliable member of staff and his thorough attitude means he’s the ideal person to control our stores. On behalf of AGM Services I would like to thank Ian for his dedication and hard work; I look forward to working with him for many more years to come.”
Ian Mather, Stores Controller, comments; “It has been a pleasure working at AGM Services. Over the past 10 years I’ve seen the company grow and evolve to become a UK wide spraybooth service and maintenance provider, I’m proud to have been a part of that. On the 27th of November the entire network of AGM service engineers and their teams met at the Rochdale head office as part of their regular training and communications.
Following a team breakfast the AGM engineers were updated and trained on the latest developments in the new customer information portal. A secure portal specifically designed to manage spraybooth documentation, certification and service & maintenance history in one safe, centralised location. The portal also offers other significant benefits including streamlining paperwork for the engineers, freeing up their time so they can be more reactive to urgent call outs.
Representatives from other suppliers were invited to provide training to ensure that the engineers are up to speed with the products and have the opportunity to ask any questions direct to the manufacturer.
The entire fleet of AGM vans were subjected to checks including their stock levels. AGM vans are kept fully stocked with the most common spray booth spare parts, ensuring the level of first time fixes is one of the best in the industry.
The health and safety of our staff is very important to us. Every member of the team had their PPE thoroughly checked from hi visibility jackets & safety boots to breathing apparatus, anything that was found to be substandard was immediately reordered and replaced. Equipment checks were carried out to ensure that each engineer has a complete set of fully functional, fully calibrated tools.
Training on the latest spray booth applications was undertaken, including the latest industrial applications, ensuring that the spray booth engineers are equipped with the knowledge to handle any eventuality.
To finish off the day, as Christmas is drawing closer, the AGM team descended in full force on the Belle Vue Dog track, to enjoy a night of fun and festivities.
Wesley Young, Sales Director commented “It’s the only day of the year where we get to have all the team in the same place at the same time, as engineers are out on the road most of the time, and to meet up like this reinforces those lines of communication. It’s also an ideal platform for extra training, it’s important to ensure that our team have all the training and back up necessary to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively.”

AGM has taken part in apprenticeship schemes for over 10 years now and it has proven a very valuable approach to recruiting, long term, committed employees. The bespoke on the job training can help to form career opportunities that can otherwise be tricky to recruit for, and is vital to continue the planned growth for the company.
AGMs most successful story is spraybooth service and maintenance engineer Rob Menzies, who started as an apprentice in 2004, now 11 years on Rob has progressed his career to become one of our most experienced and talented spray booth engineers. His commitment and dedication to his training was clear from day one, so much so that Rob will now be offering part of the on the job training for our latest apprentices.
Rob Menzies commented “I started here over 10 years ago as an apprentice myself. I’m only too happy to help others in achieving what I have achieved. AGM offer constant training ensuring that I’m up to date with the latest technologies and ensure that my health and safety is always front of mind. I look forward to showing James and Joseph the ropes and hopefully they’ll follow in my footsteps.”
James and Joseph will be required to assist AGM’s lead Engineers to carry out on the job training such as wiring, commissioning, breakdowns and fault finding. In addition to this they will have to attend college on day release to study various course modules including health and safety in the workplace. Course work will be required as well and James and Joseph’s progress will be closely monitored by their course tutor.
The apprenticeship is 3 years long and on completion, not only will they have a good grounding in an engineering career but they will also gain a BTEC Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. They’ll then progress to courses and training that will lead to GAS Safe qualifications that will in turn see them ready to lead their own spray booth service team.
AGM Sales Director Wesley Young commented on the appointment of James and Joseph. “We have a long term vision for growth at AGM Services, and are really pleased to be employing apprentices again. Over our 21 years in business we’ve had a lot of success investing in youth; hopefully these apprentices and others we intend to employ in the coming years will eventually become key members of our engineering team.
Our spraybooth engineers are some of the most highly qualified and skilled in the country, we pride ourselves on maintaining this by providing on-going training for all our engineers to keep them up to speed with latest Spraybooth developments as well as ongoing changes to COSHH legislation. These new apprenticeships are part of AGM’s commitment to continued growth and are two of several strategic appointments already in place this year. The aim is to further strengthen our existing national network of directly employed engineers, enabling us to maintain and improve the high levels of customer care and expeditious response which we are renowned for.”
