In addition to reducing the risk of equipment downtime and ensuring that your spray both equipment meets the current legal requirements, legislative spray booth testing will also make certain that your workshop employees are protected and can carry out their job without fear of harm or injury. One particular test that is in the interest of the safety of your employees and required by law at regular intervals is breathing air testing.
Breathing air tests can be carried out during an AGM Services spray booth service and maintenance visit, eliminating unnecessary costs that arise from additional visits.
As an employer you have a duty of care to your employees and failure to ensure continued compliance with safety regulations such as COSHH may result in prosecution. It is stipulated that Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) must be tested at intervals not exceeding 3 months. This will ensure that the equipment is functioning as it should be and that the breathing air that is supplied meets the required standards.
The equipment that AGM Services engineers use to carry out air quality breathing tests is regularly calibrated to ensure complete accuracy. Furthermore, all of our spray booth engineers who are tasked with carrying out the spray booth legislative testing regularly complete comprehensive training programs to ensure their certification is up-to-date.

Vehicle bodyshop owners have a requirement to control the risks and exposure to harmful substances in car spray booth ovens, which fall under the COSHH Regulation 9 guidance. They have a responsibility to their employees and others who have access to their spray booths, paint mixing room and use of other equipment such as dust extraction systems and weld fume arms to ensure relevant guidelines are followed and their equipment is managed safely. With particular reference to spray booth oven equipment Process Guidance note PG6/34(b) defines how best to meet requirements, in terms of what spray booth testing should be carried out and the levels and types of filtration systems to be used are.
Don’t be caught out, update yourself on the very latest spray painting requirements and rules by taking a look at our updated guide on spray booth regulations.
As part of our spray booth service and maintenance our highly skilled and qualified spray booth engineers carry out spray booth risk assessments and all necessary spray booth testing in accordance with the current legislation. In order to ensure filtration systems within a spray booth are working correctly, a mist clearance test (sometimes known as a smoke clearance test) should be carried out annually, measuring the time taken for a spray booth to extract all paint mist within the spray booth cabin, and the time clearly indicated on entry points to inform anyone wishing to enter the spray booth without appropriate respiratory protective equipment (RPE) the time after spraying has completed must elapse before it is safe to enter.
Take a look at our spray booth service and maintenance packages to see how we can meet your spray booth servicing needs.
All our spray booth engineers are required to undertake on-going training and assessment to ensure they are fully conversant with new spray booth regulations, guidelines and best practices across all types of spray booth testing. AGM spray booth engineers carry out the following spray booth testing methods that are required under EPA, COSHH PAS125 Kitemark and manufacturer & insurer Audit requirements.
Our engineers are strategically placed around the country and can quickly respond to emergency callouts. Click here to find your nearest spray booth engineer.
As mentioned above, the purpose of this test is to measure the time it takes for isocyanate particles to be cleared from the spray booth. To conduct this test the spray booth engineer fills the car spray booth oven with smoke and accurately measures how long it takes to extract the smoke. Arrange spraybooth mist clearance testing online.
LEV is an engineering control system to reduce exposures to airborne contaminants such as dust, mist, fume, vapour or gas in a workplace. AGM Services can undertake spray booth LEV testing on various equipment which can be found in a typical bodyshop such as: spray booth ovens, dust extraction systems, paint mixing rooms, gun cleaning rooms, weld fume extraction arms, ventilated preparation benches and exhaust extraction systems. Learn more about spray booth lev tests.
It is recommended that testing of respiratory protective equipment is carried out at regular intervals, with the maximum time between tests being 3 months. All AGM engineers carry the latest Factair Breathing Air Quality testing machines on their vans. Get details on important breathing air quality tests.
Should you be subject to an Environmental Permit then you are required to provide confirmation of the levels of hazardous product being emitted from the extract stacks. AGM Services provide stack emission monitoring that is carried out by MCERTS certified engineers, with results tested in UKAS accredited laboratories. Choose AGM Services for professional stack emission monitoring testing.
We are dedicated to safety, and ensure that your processes are actioned in adherence to industry legislation of spray booth servicing. Check out our full range of spray booth legislative testing services, or contact us to see how we can help.
Alternatively, you can contact our team directly on 01706 363 585 for more information on our spray booth services and spray booth testing.
Planning permission is required for practically every type of spray booth or room. It must also adhere to current regulations, particularly in terms of fume venting, filtering, and airflow.
Negative and positive air pressure concepts are used to operate a paint booth. The balance of the exhaust fan and the air replacement fan is critical for spray painting booth ventilation.
When only the exhaust fan is turned on, the booth develops negative pressure because more air is expelled than is put in.

We would all like to wish Wesley Young, Sales Director, AGM Services the very best luck as he prepares for the Hillsborough to Anfield Run, which is a gruelling 96 miles over a three day period. Starting on Sunday 13th April the run will see Wesley start from Anfield the home of Liverpool FC and end the run in Hillsborough the home of Sheffield Wednesday FC on Tuesday 15th April. That’s 32 miles each day for 3 days.
Wesley is running to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and The Children’s Hospital Sheffield. Alder Hey Children’s Hospital sees over 270,000 young patients and their families every year. The Children’s Hospital Sheffield is one of only 4 stand-alone children’s hospitals in the UK. The charity’s role is to provide over and above the standard NHS provision, enhancing the hospital and matching world class equipment with existing world class expertise.
Wesley commented “This run is for a great cause. The two hospitals combined see nearly 400,000 children every year and do a fantastic job despite continued cut backs in funding. Running 32 miles a day for 3 days is going to be a tough test, I have done my best to prepare physically and mentally. Friends and family have been extremely supportive in the build up to the run both in terms of motivation and donations”.
Both teams at Junair Spraybooths and AGM Services wish Wesley the very best of luck.

We have just taken delivery of another new VW Transporter van. We chose the VW Transporter due to their build quality, excellent reliability, loading capacity and more importantly their low carbon emissions.
Replacing our vans every three years allows our spray booth engineers to offer a prompt and reliable service to all our customers’ nationwide.
One of our key specification requirements for any new van is the loading capacity. This is because we understand that a spray booth is of paramount importance for many bodyshops, therefore to be able to fix a spray booth breakdown on first visit, it requires our spray booth engineers to carry a wide range of spare parts and equipment on their vans. All our vans are fully racked with the latest spray booth service and maintenance equipment and spray booth spare parts.
Here at AGM Service we pride ourselves on offering a premium, high quality, reliable service. This philosophy has seen us grow over the last 20 years to become the UK’s leading Spray booth Service and maintenance provider.
